Meet our venue team: A day in the life of Events Sales Executive Callum

Monday 04th March 2024

If you’re planning an event at Victoria Warehouse, you’ll meet our experienced in-house events team, who are all passionate about creating unforgettable experiences. Our team works closely with clients to support their whole event journey from conception to delivery- adapting our spaces to make visions come true!

Callum joined us as Events Sales Executive a year ago, with previous experience selling venue spaces and delivering events. We sat down with Callum to learn more about his role involves…

How do you start your day?

I keep things pretty simple: wake up and get to work! If I’m lucky, I might see our Wedding Coordinator Eve on the tram on the way in; if not, I’ll usually listen to some music or a podcast on the way to work. By the time I get to the office, I’m ready for my breakfast, which is usually porridge with peanut butter, dark chocolate and nuts. I have a brew and a quick catch up with the team, before officially starting the day, and tackling what’s ahead.

What does your morning involve?

Mornings usually involve responding to new event enquiries with bespoke proposals create for each new opportunity. I schedule most site visits for the morning, taking potential clients around the venue, talking them through the venue facilities and helping them imagine their corporate event experience within our spaces. Meeting new and potential clients is my favourite part of my job, and I love helping them think creatively about delegate experiences and bringing our spaces to life.

What does a typical afternoon look like?

I try to get through my admin tasks, which can involve holding dates in the venue diary, working on quotes, and sending out contracts to new clients who wish to go ahead. Once I have completed this, Bethany, who also works in corporate sales, and I will have a catch up on any event agency visits we have coming in and any potential corporate event agents we would like to invite in to view the venue. I love hosting agency visits, as it’s a great way to showcase the venue, and highlighting how differently we do things, here at Victoria Warehouse.

Afternoons are the time when we are more likely to work collaboratively on projects, involving anything from design work, including working on proposals we send to clients, and catering menus (including Christmas, which is all year round!) to proactive sales projects.

How do you unwind after work?

I’m currently training for the Manchester Marathon, so after work involves lots of running or going to the gym – after this, I have a nice tea with my boyfriend and watch The Real Housewives!

Why did you want to work at Victoria Warehouse?

The scale of events here is on a different level to anything I had worked on before, and I really loved the challenge! The versatility of the events we do here is fantastic; it’s amazing to see the spaces transformed for our diverse set of clients.

What do you like most about your job?

The thing I like most is the autonomy I have over my events. It allows me to really explore my creativity and build great relationships with my amazing clients. We are also a really close-knit team, so that helps too.

What’s the most challenging thing about your job?

All of the events are so different at Victoria Warehouse, and no two events are the same, so switching from a daytime conference for 80 people to a dinner and party for 800 can sometimes be challenging; luckily, I like wearing different hats!

Best event you’ve ever worked on?

I love any events that are fashion-related, so I get really excited when I get to work with fashion brands and creative agents. We recently worked on an amazing brand event for Adidas, which had an exhibition of different vintage trainers and new collaborations – the Gucci Gazelles were my favourite! I think our spaces work really well for fashion events, as they are a blank canvas that can be transformed into any brand’s vision. I am currently working on some really exciting projects and can’t wait to see how the spaces are used.
