Our top tips for making your events sober friendly

Friday 07th June 2024

The demand for sober-friendly events is on the rise. In 2023, Eventbrite conducted a survey and found that 56% of 21- to 35-year-olds in the UK and Ireland (and 53% of all attendees in that region) said they’d find events that offer zero-proof and low-alcohol drink options appealing, with 62% of those respondents willing to pay a higher ticket price for these events.

We’re proud to work with various clients looking to organise an inclusive event for drinkers and non-drinkers. Going ‘low’ or saying ‘no’ to boozy options is a trend that’s set to continue amongst both consumers and corporates.

Read our practical tips for crafting events that everyone can enjoy, regardless of their beverage choice.

Alcohol-free activities

Who says you need alcohol to have a good time? Get creative with your event activities by offering a variety of alcohol-free entertainment options including interactive educational workshops, meditation sessions or live performances.  There are countless ways to keep guests entertained without the need for alcohol.

‘WOW’ on the food

When alcohol isn’t the focus, make sure the food is. Elevate your event, conference, or dinner with the tastes and flavours guests won’t be able to stop talking about. Whether it’s a canape reception, three-course dinner, street food set-up, or grazing stations, work with chefs to plan an exceptional menu that means the food does all the talking.

Give people choice

Offering a diverse selection of non-alcoholic drinks is key to creating a sober-friendly event experience. Gone are the days of just a lime & soda or a Diet Coke, there are plenty more exciting options out there now. Our partnerships with suppliers such as The Alcohol Free Co. ensure that we have a fantastic range of options to cater to every taste. By providing a range of enticing drinks such as Cuban Mojito and Venetian Spritz, you’ll ensure that all guests feel welcome and catered for.

A focus on wellness

Recent research** suggests that for 86% of internal meeting planners and 68% of external meeting planners, wellbeing has become a critical target for them. Consider ditching the cocktails and focusing on delegate health and wellness instead. And, this can come in many forms… fitness sessions, healthy food stations, breathwork workshops, yoga breakouts. Or, imagine creating a cosy corner at your event, filled with comfy cushions, calming scents, and gentle tunes, ideal for delegates in need of a reset.

Inclusive atmosphere

Creating a culture of inclusivity is essential for hosting successful sober-friendly events. By educating all guests that alcohol doesn’t need to be a focus, or creating alcohol-free zones you can successfully remove the pressure related to drinking and emphasise the importance of celebrating diversity and individual preferences.

By incorporating diverse drink options, engaging activities and creating a welcoming atmosphere, you’ll set the stage for unforgettable experiences that leave a lasting impression. Paint Away Events is a great example of a fun concept that engages guests without the need for alcohol.

It’s great to see alcohol-free bars popping up, too, with Love From paving the way in Manchester.
